Bone Alignment Tips
- Start from the hips and work your way out to the arms/legs
- Align bones at joints (elbows, knees, shoulders) roughly as opposed to exactly to the target avatar
- Scale in bone groups with the same multiplier for consistency:
- Hips → Spine → Chest (same ratio/multiplier to preserve the silhouette of the torso)
- Shoulder → UpperArm → LowerArm
- UpperLeg → LowerLeg
- Endpoint Scales Matching: Ensure the scale at the tail (endpoint) of one bone closely matches the head (start) scale of the connected bone. Example: UpperArm end-scale ≈ LowerArm start-scale.
- Keep XYZ ratios uniform within bone chains.
- Mismatched scales (e.g., UpperArm 1.5×, LowerArm 0.7×) create severe, irreversible distortion.
- Do a test export of your profile after you finish bone alignment to check for distortion. Continue with mesh setup on your profile after you’ve confirmed that the bone setup doesn’t cause warping
